Hedge funds returned 2.1% in October as they continue to close in on a strong year of gains, according to Citco data.
That puts the sector (by weighted funds average) slightly ahead of the return of 18.3% recorded in 2020.
Global macro (5.6%) and equity (2.6%) strategies led in gains in October, while multi-strategy (0.9%) added another steady performance. The multi-strats had particularly strong inflows last month, $9.4bn on a net basis and now more than $45bn YTD.
Two-thirds (65%) of funds posted positive returns, with the largest managers ($3bn+ AUA) outperforming peers at 2.6%.
On a regional flows basis, the Americas (net $9.6bn inflow) outshone Europe ($0.8bn) and Asia ($0.1bn).
The report also explores trends around outsourcing, including the shift away from ‘full shadow’.
