AI moves into practical SMA deployment

AI and automation are moving from discussion into practical deployment across SMA operations. Almost half of AFI survey respondents are actively piloting AI or automation, while 31% are evaluating tools and 10% have already implemented them.

Are you evaluating or adopting AI/automation for SMA operations?

The opportunity is particularly clear in repetitive, data-intensive processes such as reconciliation, reporting, document processing and monitoring account-specific restrictions.

As SMA programmes expand, automation could help managers support more bespoke mandates without increasing operational cost and headcount at the same rate.

The near-term story is therefore less about replacing teams and more about increasing their capacity, consistency and ability to manage complexity at scale.

“We use AI across the whole offering, both in operations and in what the client sees,” says Jason Costa, Head of Hedge Fund Services, Americas, at SS&C GlobeOp.

“On the client side, AI is built into reporting. Because we hold the golden source of data, managers and investors can query it in near real time and get answers on exposures, performance or limits across all of their accounts without waiting for a report to be built.”
