Hazeltree founder returns as CEO in leadership overhaul

Hazeltree has appointed founder Remy Trafelet as chairman, president and chief executive officer as the treasury management and data platform looks to accelerate growth across the alternative investment industry.

Trafelet succeeds Lokesh Seth after returning to the company as executive chairman in late 2024. He originally developed Hazeltree within his hedge fund firm, Trafelet Delta Funds, before spinning the business out as an independent company in 2011.

The leadership reshuffle also brings two senior industry executives to the firm. Jessica Segarra joins as chief operating officer after leading global operations at Schonfeld Strategic Advisors and previously serving as deputy head of operations at Balyasny Asset Management. Martin Koopman has been appointed chief product officer from Broadridge, where he was chief product officer and co-head of AI.

The appointments reflect Hazeltree’s growing focus on combining treasury management with data and artificial intelligence as hedge funds and private markets firms seek greater operational efficiency.

Treasury management has become an increasingly important part of institutional infrastructure, helping alternative asset managers optimise cash, collateral and financing across multiple counterparties while managing liquidity and operational risk.

Trafelet said Segarra’s operational experience within multi-strategy hedge funds and Koopman’s expertise in AI-driven product development would strengthen Hazeltree’s offering for hedge fund and private equity clients.

The appointments come after Hazeltree recently announced a special dividend to shareholders, returning the capital raised in its 2024 equity financing, highlighting the company’s strong balance sheet as it invests in expanding its treasury, data networking and AI capabilities.
