People moves round-up: Week ending 27 January

The week’s top people moves headlines in alternative asset management, mostly based on AFI analysis of regulatory filings. (Pro and Executive members can get daily updates here).

Renaissance Technologies COO departs role

Jim Rowen departed his COO role at Renaissance Technologies, according to a 23 January filing. He took up the role at the Long Island-based quant giant at the start of 2008. His retirement had been announced last year, according to a source close to the firm. There is no word on a replacement.

Whitebox CFO leaves for investment seat

Robert Riepe, CFO at Whitebox Advisors, has left the Minneapolis-based manager after more than eight years with the firm, according to a 26 January filing. He has joined Peregrine Capital Management in the same city as an equity analyst focused on small caps.

The CFO role at Whitebox has been added to COO Muqu Karim in addition to his existing role, per a filing.

Typhon appoints chief strategy officer

Miami-based Typhon Capital Management has appointed Kevin O’Hara as chief strategy officer, the firm announced. He had spent eight years on its advisory board.

He will be responsible for building links with institutional asset managers and developing product lines expanding on Typhon’s specialism in tactical futures and crypto trading.

Investcorp hires Alcentra team

Investcorp has hired Suhail Shaikh, who headed US direct lending at Alcentra, to co-head its private credit team.

Shaikh has joined the $50bn alts specialist alongside three team members and brought over $200m, expanding the private credit business at Investcorp to $500m.

Major multi-strat moves

A couple of big multi-strat hires from the end of last year were reported.

Eisler Capital hired Damien Bombelli, an industry veteran previously with JP Morgan, Strand Asset Management, Graticule Asset Management Asia and Millennium Capital Management (Reuters).

Brevan Howard hired Jon Freedman as head of risk and middle office IT in London. He had previously worked at Point72 and Millennium Management (Financial News).
