Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and J.P. Morgan lead the ranking of prime brokers providing services to AFI 500 hedge funds.
Goldman Sachs is the top provider with 294 clients, meaning it acts as a prime to at least one fund at three-fifths of the AFI 500, a new ranking of the global hedge fund industry. Morgan Stanley (276) and J.P. Morgan (234) follow.
The ranking below includes only firms with at least ten clients on the AFI 500. There is a long tail of firms with between one and nine. Please contact AFI for details and for information about service providers to specific hedge funds.
The 14 firms still listed as Credit Suisse clients in the most recent regulatory filings (as of January 2025) have been added to UBS’s figures.
The ranking incorporates the world’s leading 500 hedge fund managers on a regulated AuM basis, broadly capturing the universe of firms at $1bn or more in absolute hedge fund assets.
